Imo State Government has been facing a lot of financial difficulties due to the recent development in the economy of the nation, which adversely affected the fund allocation of states. Since Imo State Government must carry out its civic duties, there is need for it to look for supplementary sources of revenue. The major purpose of this research is to critically examine the feasibility of choosing tourism as an additional source of revenue from tourism development in the state and the role it is currently playing in the economy of the state. In carry out the research, primary and secondary sources of data were used. Various aspects of tourism and its impact were considered. Carefully defined copied of data were administered on randomly drawn tourism workers etc. sample percentage was used to analyze the data while Chi-square was adopted in testing the hypothesis since the research is descriptive in nature. The research reveals that the level of tourism development in Imo State is low because of government in that sector. Based on these findings, it is concluded that tourism has not played much significant role on the economic development of the state, but will create an impact if the existing tourism resources are properly harnessed
